The Right Thing
I would first like to ask everyone, What is righteousness? I will be using the Hebrew meaning but I would like to hear what you have to say.
Righteousness in the Hebrew is Yasar, it means straight, to be straight, right and righteous. There is another word Sadaq that is also used and means to make right, to make straight. They both have more meanings and definitions but I will be covering the above.
How do we know right from wrong? We have to line up with God’s laws of right and wrong. We walk straight on God’s path. If we deviate we must straighten back again (to be made righteous). The further we are off the path, the longer and more painful it can be to get back. We must do what is right according to God.
How do we confirm what we read in the Bible? We must confirm scripture with scripture. It says in the Old testament we must learn percept upon precept (Isaiah 28:13).
I will do my best to leave personal opinions and follow what the Word says and what I studied. You will see my personal feelings in my short backstory so I will try not to let them obscure Gods Word. Something I really do not like is when people take 1 bible verse out of context and use it for their own purposes. I will always try to confirm God’s Word, in context, with other verses. 2nd Timothy 2:15, rightly dividing the word of God.
Many people have heard the verse 1st Peter 2:13. “Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme. I would like to include verse 14 “or, unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for punishment of evildoers, and for praise of that that do well”.
Without too much expounding I would like to point out that it speaks of what kind of ruler/king a kingdom or government should have. Do we always have those? No. What do we do when we have evil ungodly rulers? Let us look at other verses in the Word.
First I would like to say, no matter who is in charge. Your boss or, government, read Galatians 6:9 “Do not be weary of well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not”. I would add to clarify “well doing according to God”. That is doing what is right and straight in God’s eyes.
Let us start with the apostles in acts. Acts 4:18-19:
“And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus” verse 19″ But Peter and John answered and said unto them, whether it be right in the sight of God to harken unto you more than God, judge ye.”
Was it illegal to speak of Jesus or teach in His name? Technically until the command or order from the “rulers” was given it was not “illegal”. They were given a warning.
Next in Acts 5:28-29:
“Saying, did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in his name? and behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us” verse 29: “Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men”
Now they were confirmed to break the law (order that was given by ruler) (in contempt of court haha) and what did they say to them? We rather obey God. They did what was right in God’s eyes rather than man’s.
Lets not stop there, what did Jesus do in His ministry?
Lets see what Matthew 8:3 says:
“And Jesus put forth His hand, and TOUCHED him saying, I will, be thou clean. and immediately his leprosy was cleansed”
Can anyone tell me what Jesus did there?
He did many things but in the context of the subject we are talking about what did He do?
He broke the law by touching a leper (in the Law of Moses you are not suppose to touch them)
He did what was right even when it was unlawful.
Something I thought was funny to bring up is that in Acts 5:19 God broke the Apostles out of jail, attempted escape is a 5 year charge nowadays!
What about in Luke 14:3 and Mark 3:2-6?
Both speak of healing on the Sabbath. Is it wrong? is it against the law? in Luke he asks them what would they do if their donkey was fallen into a hole, would they bring it out? How much more important is the life of man????
I like how Mark’s account goes “and they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might accuse him”
Using the law to do what is wrong (good example of the opposite type of government of 1st Peter 2:14)
verse 3″ and he saith unto the man which had the withered hand, stand forth”
verse 4″ and he saith unto them, is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life or, to kill? but they held their peace”
They were planning evil in their hearts already.
verse 5 “and when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. and he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other”
Christ was angry? righteous anger according to God’s standard.
verse 6 “and the Pharisees went forth, and straightaway took counsel with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him”
They conspired to use the law to get rid of Jesus. Sounds like they were breaking at least 3 laws (conspired) (using the law for evil) (getting rid of Jesus, literally destroy Him!)
I would like to point out that in Acts 5:34-39 There is a man of the Pharisees who disagrees with what the other ones said. If there is division in the government on what is right and wrong how can we know which law would be correct?
Only God’s Law doesn’t change!
Here is acts 5:38: “And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to naught”
verse 39: “But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God”.
Jesus did not come to break the law and get away with it. He came for many reasons, I believe one of them was to reveal man’s broken law, to be accused and persecuted by it so He could bring change (overcoming death and paying for sins innocently)
Paul in 1st Corinthians 10:23 says that anything is lawful for him but not expedient. He is saying under grace he doesn’t have to live under the law but to do what is right according to God he doesn’t abuse his freedom.
Group question: After being saved does our heart stop being deceitful?
First, the Bible says in Jeremiah 17:9
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”
In Jeremiah 31:33 it says:
“But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; after those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts, and will be their God, and they shall be my people”
Paul says in Romans 7:15-25 that he is fighting against his flesh to do what is right. He continues to do wrong that He does not want to do! He says this in
verse 22-23:22″ For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
23″ But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members”
the full verse 1st Corinthians 10:23 is: “All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not”
We see in the above verses we naturally have a sinful wicked heart, God wrote His law in our hearts and given us the knowledge of right and wrong but we continually fight between our mind and flesh.
Ultimately we are not bound by the law of sin and death, we have been freed but we know that to do what is right according to God we must sacrifice what we want for what God wants. God wants none to perish but, that all have ever lasting life with Him. 2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Romans 8:29 says:
“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestine to be conformed to the image of His son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren”
How does conforming to the Image of Christ reveal how we should live when compared to the verses in 1st Peter 2:13-14?
Let’s see some of the things Christ did:
Healed on the sabbath, questioned the Pharisees, touched a leper, forgave the women caught in adultery when He “should” have cast the first stone, he over turned tables in the temple, he received men’s praise that was reserved for God, told His disciples to eat on the sabbath, and more! But in everyway He did right according to God knowing the consequences of man that was to come.
In the book “Disruptive Compassion,” by Hal Donaldson, it says of Jesus in pages 24-25 “the greatest protester the world has ever known is Jesus. He didn’t march, picket or, boycott, yes his fingerprints can still be seen on movements all over the world. Dissatisfied with conditions on earth, He launched a movement of disruptive compassion…. He led a resistance to oppression, prejudice, religious elitism and hatred. He said, “love your neighbor as yourself,” “be kind to your enemies,” and “protect the weak.”
Counter cultural, to say the least. He went beyond words, too, by feeding the hungry, healing the sick, and befriending beggars, prostitutes, and outcasts. His message was radical for his time, and his acts of compassion were misunderstood by many, but that didn’t stop him. Power brokers feared he secretly sought to topple government and religious institutions, but he has a much greater purpose. He came to disrupt the status quo and give people hope through love and compassion.”
Doing what is right according to God is often not easy. We know inside what is right but fear and self preservation stops us. Knowing or not knowing the consequences of doing right should not stop us either way.
By faith we should act and then give it to God to do His work.
I have been here a few months now but don’t like to talk about myself much. Here is a short backstory of why I am here. My family were missionaries in the Dominican Republic when I was younger. Most of my family contracted MRSA a very bad staph infection that left big painful boils in many places on the body and is drug resistant. We had many types of powerful antibiotics but nothing helped. After a few years of suffering my father looked online and found some mineral that helps the body. He thought it was a scam but after looking more into it it made sense so he bought it and tried it on himself. After a few months he was better “cured” and then started giving it to his children. Soon after (months maybe) we were better! To be pain-free is a great thing and it was a miracle from God. My dad decided to start a church mission preaching the Word of God and sharing these natural minerals that help heal the body. He followed what it says in Matthew 10:7-8 7″And as you go, preach, sayings, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.” 8″ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
God blessed us so we had to bless others. For 10 years (2010 to 2020) my father went around the world helping people, healing people and, doing seminars to teach people how to use the minerals and preach the Word of God. Many testimonies, video and written, were recorded and shared online. I would help with online work, websites and, emails, and help ship out the minerals.
in 2020 Covid came about and people would ask us if it helped with Covid. We said we didn’t know, it was new but we have seen (and received peoples testimonies) that virus’s like Ebola, the flu, Aids, HIV and more be healed and the bodies restored to better health. Soon after people were using it for Covid and sending in testimonies how it help them, that had positive tests then after using the minerals tested again and were negative! Some felt they couldn’t breathe and within a day they could breathe normally!
To shorten the story, the FDA said we had to stop, we told them that we couldn’t stop helping people, it was a command from God. They put an injunction on us and told us to stop. We did what we believe God wanted us to do. Soon after they arrested us and after 3 years of them pushing off trial they gave us 12 years 7 months. Before the arrest, we were scared but chose to do what is right. During and after sentencing still scared but even knowing or not knowing the consequences we chose to follow God. Now I sit here not knowing what is next but I will trust in God.
