Peace In Hebrew is Shalom, meaning to be perfect or whole.
Jesus promises that He will give us peace. John 14:27
Isaiah says if our mind is stayed on the Lord we will have perfect peace. Isaiah 26:3
Paul says we war between our flesh and spirit. Romans 7:15-25
What does this all mean?
Jesus came to change us from dead to alive, Jesus is peace, perfect peace, to have peace is to be more like Him until we are made perfect when He returns.
Can we have perfect peace here on earth?
Not permanent perfect peace, but perfect peace as long as our minds are on God. But we get distracted, hurt, self-absorbed. It is a war to pull our minds back to God!

John 14:27 Jesus is saying:
“Peace, I leave with you. My peace I give unto you. Not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
A few things come to mind when I read this verse.
1. Jesus leaves His peace with us. In the verse prior He is speaking of the Holy Spirit, the Comforter. So, this peace is a Person, a part of God.
2. It appears the world also gives us peace but not the same thing as Christ. It shows how when we are at war between the flesh and spirit we are also at war with the world’s imitations of Godly things. We don’t hate peace but if we choose earthly peace, it is only temporary. A weaker and watered down peace that will let you down. Like hope, if you put your hope in anything but God and His Will you will be discouraged and worse!
Proverbs 13:12 says:
“Hope deferred maketh the heart sick…”
3. Jesus says “don’t let your heart be troubled or afraid”
Why does He say that?
Because He knows it is going to happen and He understands. Jesus here on earth had troubles and felt fear but His answer was always prayer to the Father, being near to and trusting God.
Why???
Because it works!
God bless you all
