Are there many gods and how do you define the word God.
What is the difference between God and gods. The Hebrew for God is Elohim, the plural form of El, the root word meaning strength. Sometimes Elohim is used as authority.
El also can be used as might, as in almighty God
A word is just a word, what or who is behind that word is what is important.
The other Hebrew word for God is YHWH, it appears also as LORD when it is in all caps.
It is God’s name but also a fact, meaning the eternal self existing one.
The Hebrew word for lord (lower case) is adon meaning sovereign, master, controller, owner.
The Greeks used Theos for gods. When Paul was speaking Greek he would add “the” infront of Theos when speaking of God or The God. Theos means deity.
Behind every idol is a devil, every idol can be a god to you because it is your master. We can be a slave to our flesh, money, things, pride. Everything that is not the one true God, Creator, Eternal one, can be your god or master.
If there is only one God why are there so many religions? If there are many false gods and devils what is the correct religion?
Again words are important. What does religion mean?
Religion is only used in the Greek and only a few times. So why is this word used worldwide and so synonymous with God?
What does the word mean? It sounds so important!
Ceremonial observance.
(That is disappointing)
No wonder people hold onto their religion, it is the acts of man (observance) that wins them entrance into “heaven”
“If I worship(religion) the right way God will be happy”
Does God or gods want ceremonial observance?
Go to every religion and ask what “you” need to do to “earn” heaven. You will be given a list of do’s and don’ts.
I won’t use the word Christian because it has been so confused that is sounds like religion. I will just use Jesus.
What is the difference between Jesus and all the religions of the world?
It is not what you can do for God, it is what He(Jesus/God) did for you.
No natural works of man could reconnect man to God. Sin (the substance) is not natural so only supernatural works could undo the separation it caused between God and man. We are spiritually dead without God so He (supernatural) had to do something. He made a way and the only way. People can argue over how He did it and why but the fact is that it is done.
God built a bridge to Himself, named it Jesus, and no man can take it down or build another one. That is the God I speak of.
Last night in my Bible study we read these verses, important to know and relevant to this newsletter
1st Corinthians 10:19-22
19 “What say I then? That the idol is anything, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is anything?”
20 ” but I saw, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devil, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils”
21 ” ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of the devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the devils.”
22″ do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than He?”
This chapter and these verses and have many study applications but with regard to the newsletter on who is God here are a few points
1. Idols are nothing (not worth anything) compared to the living God, creator of all.
2. Idols all have devils behind them, they exist and are real and are called gods by many.
3. It is a very simply binary option, either serve God or all the idols/gods/devils, there is no in between.
4. Don’t provoke God, He is always stronger than us, than the idols and devils and everything. Honor Him because He is worthy of all honor and praise.
There is a saying in jail I hear a lot. “Don’t mistake my kindness for weakness”.
God did the greatest thing ever by loving us and making a way for us unworthy sinners. Don’t mistake His love and mercy as weakness, there will be justice in the end, every evil deed not covered in the blood of Christ, every devil and the devil, every idol and god will be wiped out. There will be no more pain, suffering, weeping or sin after the end judgement. Only Joy, love, and Jesus!
Thank you,
Jordan, a Child of God!
