God Wants Availability, Not Ability: A Prison Ministry Testimony – Bishop Jonathan Grenon Pilgram Prisoner

Hi dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
It has been a tough few weeks after coming off the lockdown. I am thankful to be out of the cell and pretty much back to normal. Recently a very special man in my and my families life has passed away. You might have heard of the passing of our dear brother Steve. It is sad for us who still remain on earth, in this battle. But I am thankful and happy to know that he is with the LORD and his dear wife. We pray for his family who is grieving at this time. May God bless them and give them peace in this storm that they are in.
Also pray for my mother and her family. Her sister and her family is in need of our prayers. Thank you.

I wanted to share with everyone something that my dad taught me at a very young age. He would tell me that God is not looking for someone with Ability, but Availability. You see, God doesn’t need the ability of man to do His will. Heck, the ability of man just cant do it. Can He use our abilities that He has given us? Of course He can, and any gift or ability we have should be used to glorify God. So, don’t get me wrong. To have abilities can be a good thing. All I am saying is God doesn’t need it and He doesn’t search for it. He wants someone who is available to do His will. You can have all the abilities and be the best at many things, but we know that most of the time the people who have those abilities seem to live for themselves a lot more than those who are really not gifted in much of anything. God will use the weak to confound the wise. Why is that? Because the weak don’t live for self as much as the strong. We are speaking about physical strength here folks. So to be available, one’s heart has to be for God. It is a selfless life.
I wanted to touch up on that before I go into what happened to me the other day on 10/14/26, as I was being available for the work of the LORD.

We were called to commissary to get a few things as what has been available from commissary has been very little lately. The Unit next to us, E-4 was called with us , E-3. So after I shopped and translated for a guy who couldn’t speak English. I sat down and was talking to a fellow brother in Christ, who seemed to find everything to be negative. So for each negative thing he said, I said something positive. After a bit he stopped talking to me. Not judging him, we all have those days. I was just trying to get him off the negative part. I think it worked.
So I sat there and said within my mind “Lord, see through my eyes, hear through my ears and show me something. Show me someone in need to hear about You.” So I panned my eyes around and my ears heard conversations, so many full of nothing. Just vain conversations and I looked around at the faces and was asking God. “Show me the one You want me to talk to”. Then I turn and there is a white guy right next to me, quiet and not talking to anyone. I felt the LORD say to me, “him, talk to him”!!! I was like “Ok LORD, but how should I start the conversation? The guy seems to be avoiding me, like turned a bit not to talk to me. But I am available LORD, make it happen, Here I am LORD.”
For some reason I mentioned to someone that E-1 had been hit the day before. (When I say hit, I mean the officers did a shake down in that unit.) I said “I heard that they got someone with contraband.” As I said that, the guy next to me turned and asked what they got.
I thought to myself “Got ya, I got the fish on the line”. We are to be fishers of men, right? Well, I hooked one and was reeling him in.

When I started to talk to this guy named Nick, it was about 10-15 minutes from 9 am. At 9 am there would be a move and I would have to cut the conversation short, as we would each go to our designated unit. So I began to share my testimony of why I was in prison and began to witness to him of the LORD Jesus Christ. As I was talking I kept thinking in my head, “Lord, I need more time to share more with him”. Time came and went and I was able to talk to Nick for almost a full hour. And I thought, well that is weird they didn’t do a move. Right as I ended talking with Nick, the officer came out asking for a guy that they were looking for. It ended up being a guy that wasn’t where he was supposed to be and they were looking for him, so that put the move off for 45 minutes. Right after the guy who was in the wrong area left. They called a move and we went back to our units. God saw that I was going to be available for His work and moved a lot of things to give me the time to plant that seed of truth in Nick’s life. I pray that God will help Nick see the only Way to salvation.

Also dad was sharing with me how he led a man to Jesus. People, if we are not available to do the will of God. Then it doesn’t matter how many abilities you have, or how good you are at something. You must be available to be able to serve the LORD Jesus Christ. And that only can come from the ones who live a selfless life like our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Try this, wake up and make the first thing you say whether it be out loud or not. “Lord Jesus, this is Your day and my life is Yours, May Your will be done today. Lead me to at least one person today who I may witness to of You my LORD. Amen”
Then just live out your day to see it happen, I promise the opportunities will show up.

May God bless us all.

A servant of the LORD
